HOMEOPATHIC MATERIA MEDICA

APIS - Created by bee venom.  It helps the patient who is allergic, especially to bee stings.  It helps with symptoms of stinging, swelling, redness and burning in whatever form they come.

ARNICA - Arnica Montana  Also known as leopards bane. The plant has a wooly appearance and the roots and leaves are used.  Arnica is used homeopathically for physical trauma, blows, bumps, bruises, head injuries, physical pain in childbirth, after surgical procedures,and dental work.  It is a great homeopathic remedy for children. Used internally and topically.

BELLADONNA -  The "deadly nightshade" plant.  The plant is highly poisonous.  Eating the plant creates symptoms similar to the ones it removes, such as:  high fevers, throbbing pain, fear and rage.  Belladonna is often used for fever.  Signs for Belladonna are fevers of sudden onset that spike high, also with convulsions.  Also for headaches where the patient can't bear noise or light and feels better in a quiet, dark room and tightly wrapped or covered up.  Vertigo, glassy eyes, dilated pupils, cold hands and feet with a hot body, no thirst, throbbing headache, throbbing earache,  sudden onset and departure call for it.

CALENDULA - Calendula Officinalis  The marigold flower.  It is astringent and antiseptic and used topically and internally for wounds, burns, abrasions, cuts and scrapes.

CHAMOMILLA - Matricaria Recruita  Taken from German Chamomile.  Used for pain, especially associated with teething and toothache.  Also for behavioral problems.  Patient very sensitive to pain and wants to be carried or rocked.  He can become angry, violent, or  abusive.  Beware of flying objects, for a chamomilla child can be known for throwing things during his fits of rage.

COCCULUS INDICUS - Also called Indian Cockle.  A remedy used after a lack of sleep.  The patient appears to be very irritable.  It is also used for travel sickness.  The remedy picture reveals that a patient may be nauseated with apprehension, giddiness, palpitations, sweaty palms, and a frequent urge to urinate.  Also used for colic.

COFFEA CRUDA - Unroasted coffee.  Great nervous aggitation and restlessness.  Excitable, even joyful.   Helps with sleeplessness due to an overactive mind.  This person is worse from excessive emotions (joy), strong odors, noise, cold, and nightime.

GELSEMIUM - Gelsemium Sempervirens  Common name is Yellow Jasmine.  This is remedy most used for the symptoms of stage fright or fear in examination.  The patient may have a headache or diarrhea due to this fear.  The headache is one that feels like a tight band is squeezing the head, that at any moment it may snap.  Also good for common cold and flu that have a slow onset.  The face and head may be hot, but the extremeties are cold, with chills up and down the back.

HYPERICUM - Hypericum Perforatum  Also called St. John's Wort.  It is for punctures, lacerations, etc., that involve parts of the body dense with nerves.  Also used for shock.  Example of this would be slamming one's finger in a door.  Hypericum soothes nerve pain and can be alternated with Arnica for post surgery especially dental surgery.  Used topically or internally.

IGNATIA - Called St. Ignatius Bean.  Related to the Nux Vomica plant.  Often used for anxiety,  headaches,  anger,  insomnia,  sore throat and indigestion.  These symptoms are
usually caused by grief or emotional upset.  More commonly given to women or girls, where as Nux is more commonly given to Men and boys, although this is not always the case.  She sighs often, and feels as there is a lump in her throat or stomach.

NUX VOMICA -  Also called  "poison nut".  Used in acute situations where over indulgence has led to physical or emotional ailments such as constipation,  diarrhea, sleep disorders,
headache, addictive behaviors, anger, masked fear.  They are very sensitive to light,  sounds and smells.  Almost always irritable.

PULSATILLA - Also called the Windflower.  Often has changeable symptoms, and wandering pains that alternate sides of the body.  An example of this would be a stuffy nose that alternates sides frequently.   For discharges that are thick and yellowish-greenish.  Used forsinusitis, styes, diarrhea.  Congestion is worse in a warm room,during hot weather, or while lying down and relieved from cool air and cool
applications.  Also the patient tends to be whiny, moody and craves sympathy.  They also tend to have no thirst.

RHUS TOXICENDRON -  Also known as Poison Ivy.  The leaves are used to create the remedy. Used for strains, sprains, tendonitis and the like.  It is also used for skin conditions like chicken pox, small pox, measles, some rashes, like poison ivy.  What the plant creates is what it heals.

RUTA - Common name is Rue.  For injuries that occur to the knee, shin or elbow. Also used before or after surgery to the knee, wrist, elbow or teeth.   Bruises that heal slowly and have a lump.  Used for carpal tunnel syndrome, which have lumpy bands of tissue.  Can be used in conjunction with Arnica,  usually following Arnica.

SULPHUR - For skin conditions associated with itching and burning;  diaper rash, acne poison ivy, eczema, psoriasis, etc.  Also for digestive problems associated with itching and burning;  from sore throat all the way down to hemorrhoids and diarrhea.
